Baptism of William Beck 1864
« on: Wednesday 14 November 07 13:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
is it possible that someone could find the date of the baptism of the following child? It's not on the IGI but I'm fairly sure it occured at Marston Moretaine.
On FreeBMD it's down as happening in the June 1/4 of 1864 in Ampthill district.

William James BECK-son of George Beck of Biggleswade and his wife Ann Flute of Astwood.

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi, Trisha,

I think what you have found is William's birth registration and the baptism could have happened a year or two later;  I've one family that baptised about 6 children all together with ages ranging from 12 down to a baby.

Baptism records would give an exact date.

Hi Jan,
I think if that happened it must have happened after 1875 which is when the IGI baptism records for Marston Moretaine run out.

Hi Trisha,

Have you found the family on 1871/1881 census?   Could they have moved into another parish?

In 1871 in Marston George was a widower with two children, William 6 and George 4, both born in Marston

Why should they have been baptised at all? Is there any evidence of non-conformity in the family? If Ann was from Astwood might they have been taken there to be baptised?

They're definitely not in Marston register up to 1875, checking all Williams and Georges

As Nanny Jan said, there's a big difference between a civil registration of a birth and a baptism in a church
