Great Synagogue of London.
« on: Friday 16 November 07 05:39 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping I just might find someone who is able to carry out a lookup through the files of the Great Synagogue of London.

The starting person would be Zalig Hart.
His son married in 1875 at said Synagogue.
The sons name Benjamin b1850 +-. his bride Matilda.
How many other children and their names did ZALIG have.
Zaligs wife was Hannah, was this his first marriage.
How far back and how much info does the file give us.
With their 4 children, Pauline, Charles, Sarah, and Joseph, Benjamin and Matilda would come to Australia. The year 1883.

Should you chose to accept this mission I can give you the address in Finchley.
As a housebound pensioner lookups are truly valued.
Best wishes to you and yours, Ray

Hi Ray,

Welcome to Rootschat!   I can't accept the mission but can suggest that you have a look at  www.jewishgen.org  where you might find some ideas to help you in your search.

Happy hunting,

Nanny,
Thanks for the reply.
I know of Jewishgen and regret I have not been able to find anything that give1 definite connections.
The same names appear on several sites. But there is nothing that tells me that one family group belong to a root family group.

My best wishes to you and yours, Ray

Hi Ray,

Just checked with google, it would seem that the marriage registers for the Great Synagogue were microfilmed by the Mormons and can be ordered for viewing at any of the Mormon Family History Libraries.  As you are housebound they might carry out the search for a fee; it's worth asking.

Nanny,
Ok, I've taken your advice and written to the Family Search. Lets see what we get  in response.

Yes L.A. we have  pretty complete history of their life here in Australia. They lived in Sydney for some years, had children. Another seven on top of the four UK born children.
Then at a later unknown date they make a move to NZ, where they set up a small business, in 1932 Matilda dies and is buried in the Spring Grove cemetery.

There are always questions did they attend a Synagogue in Sydney [most likely near Bexley]? Don't know.
When did they move to NZ? Don't know, but I think it was after most of the children married. Perhaps in the nearest Synagogue to Bexley.
Appreciate any help.
Best wishes, Rayh
