Deciphering Help Please (DECIPHERED AND COMPLETED)
« on: Sunday 18 November 07 18:33 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Can anyone help in deciphering the middle name of the Emily Lewis below the Sarah Jane Lewis please?

On the transcription is says Marna, but I have never come across that name before, can anyone enlighten me if this is the name.

Many thanks
Ewan

Hello Tati and CatOne

I'll see what anyone else makes of it and then I'll say what I hope it is.  Anyone that read my dilemma earlier this year will know what that was ;)

I would say that it is Marna, a Swedish name

I also think it 's Marna - no dot over the i and there is a very clear one above the i in Lewis and Emily

I was hoping for a Maria, but there are definite dotted i's throughout the census which makes me think it could well be Marna.  Very interesting name have never come across it before.  Many thanks for all responses and views.

Births Dec 1854
Lewis    Emily Maria         Malmesbury    5a   36

What you see on a census page is only a transcription of something else - it doesn't make it right.  :-*
