George JORDAN - Devon
« on: Thursday 30 December 04 21:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I live in New Zealand and have been researching the various branches of my family history for some time.

I have come unstuck with the Jordan line which originated from Devon and I wondered whether you might be able to assist.

I know that George Jordan married Tabatha (Tobiatha) Quantick (nee Leader) 10 Feb 1831 at Ashcombe, Devon ( I have a copy of the Church record of the marriage). Then in 1842 they emmigrated on the ship Timanadra from Plymouth arriving in New Plymouth, NZ 23 Feb 1842. George was a tanner & sawyer. They brought their children Mary Anne Quantick (from Tabatha's previous marriage), John, George, Elizabeth Leader, Bertha, David and William Leader Jordan with them. George died 18 March 1857 aged 52 according to his death certificate - meaning he was born in 1805.

+++ What I can't seem to find out is who George's parents were and where he might have been born.

I would very much appreciate any help you may be able to offer.

Have a great day!
Mark Jordan
