Old Newspaper clippings/album
« on: Monday 19 November 07 19:25 GMT (UK) »
I have been given an old scrapbook with pasted-in newspaper cuttings from WW2. I would like to know the best way to 'conserve' them so that they can be used by the children in my local school.  I can't un-stick them from the pages and anyway they are back to back on the pages. I thought about trying to laminate them in some way but again, problems as they are back to back.  The scrapbook pages are crumbling at the edges but the newsprint is, so far, holding on!
Any advice welcomed!

I'd try to get them scanned if possible, you can then print them off or put them on a disc for the children to look at. The school might have a scanner if you don't?

Thanks for this - I had thought of this as a last resort although some are larger than the glass of my flatbed scanner.  Will have a go and  save to CD , index and then they can scroll through by date.
Thanks again!

No worries, perhaps if there aren't too many very big ones you could ask the school or use the library to photocopy and reduce and then scan?

Hi, if you could post a message on the photograph restoration board and/or attach a link to this message (the mods don't like double posting of same message) then I'm sure that one of the experts there would be able to help, there is also a topic on there about conservation.  PrueM is a professional in this field, she may see your message there.
good luck it sounds a wonderful project
