More info on Gedcom, please
« on: Wednesday 21 November 07 06:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I am not sure what a GEDCOM is and how to use it. I am registered on Genes Reunited and have been downloading a lot of information there, and I also have a lot of information on a PAF5 on family search.org. I have also had a lot of assistance on rootschat and would like to let people have access to what i have. How do i go about doing this?

A Gedcom is a text file arranged to enable family-tree database (and other)  programs to exchange information.

This is normally achieved by importing the Gedcom into the family tree program using the File, Import or Gedcom Import options.
Gedcoms are normally created by family tree programs by using the File Export or Gedcom Export options.

Note when importing a Gedcom it it best practice to import into a new database rather than importing into an existing database.
This allows the entries to be checked for accuracy before being added to an existing database.
Cheers
