Cloudersly Cottage/ Farm Field Cottage
« on: Wednesday 21 November 07 21:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi all does anyone know where either of these cottages . My Grandad Edden Smith lived in Cloudersly cottage Willey in 1911where he was a farm labourer and my gran was a housekeeper.
I dont know how long he was there for but in 1919 he was in Farm field cottage or Field farm cottage .Im trying to find out if his Mother Ellen Smith was living with them at any time after 1901as i have a death date  in lutterworth 1924 for an Ellen Smith and want to know if it could possibly be her . Her husband was John Smith and they lived in Attleborough in 1901 but i think he may have died and Ellen moved to be near sons . Another son  George Edden married Sarah Ann Beech from Hillmorton and at some point was living at Pear Tree Cottage Bell Street Claybrooke so she may have gone to live with him.Any help or advice would be appreciated .

Greetings Again Tarnya.

As promised in your other request thread
I had a look at the Burial Registers for

St. Peter's Parish Church Claybrooke & Ullesthorpe.
To day at the Records Office
But sorry to say NO record of a Ellen Smith. found 1923. ~26.

I also had a look at St. Mary's Parish Church Registers for Lutterworth it's self
But again NO record found same time sale as above.
I'll have an other look around Lutterworth District for you latter.

MIKE.

Hi Mike
Thanks for that  George Edden and Sarah Ann are burried in Claybrooke i found them in unmarked graves . Just a thought i remember my dad once saying he had relatives burried in Monks Kirby Cemetry  but surely i would think if Ellen died in Lutterworth and John in Nuneaton they would be together. I dont know if the relatives would be Eddens or Smith though. Maybe i've got it all wrong!

Greeting's Again Tarnya.

Although the Death took place with in the Lutterworth District
it does not mean that the burial would be there too.
Monks Kirby also came under Lutterworth District although it's in Warwickshire.

But I too would have thought that Ellen would be reunited with John in Nuneaton.

MIKE.

UPDATED.

If Ellen went to Willey then :~

Although Willey is in Warwickshire
it came under Lutterworth Registration District.
Hence the Lutterworth District on that death Index record.
But this was transfered to the Rugby Registration District 1st. April 1932.

So diffidently it's better handled in the Warwickshire Section
But if I can help for anything in the Leicestershire Section then please ask ...

Good Luck . ......

Hi Mike
Once again Thank you . I seem to be going round in circles does Cloudersly cottage or farm field cottage hold the key .Perhaps as i have just found out from another kind roots chatter that Gorse Barn farm was sold in 1911 so did John and Ellen stay there or move. Is there any way of finding out any information on records for these cottages to see who was there or will it be a case of waiting for the 1911 census . I have tried looking for both Cottages but had no luck .

Hi Mike
Just to let you Know i sent for the death certificate  For Ellen Smith but its not the one as although she was the widow of John smith he was a Road man and  her John was a farm labourer. It says she died Bruntingthorpe and her son was the informant but on place of death and her sons address all it says
is bruntingthorpe . Johns i think i have now just got to find place of burrial and hopefully Ellen might be with him . Anyway can you check  any electoral rolls for me for Forest farm Cottage /Clouderslycottage
and Pitt cottage . Cloudersly Cottage was where Edden Smith was in 1911 when first married  and Forest farm Cottage was where he was in 1919 . Wondered how long he was there for and if any of his siblings were there. Pitt cottage was in Polsworth and its where George edden smith was in 1915 again wondered if any siblings were with him .
THANKS TARNYA

Hi Tarnya,
Cloudesly Cottages is just north of Monks Kirby just where the Fosse Way crosses what we know as the Coal Pit lane at a place called Cloudesly Bush. As you can see from the map it is just north of Monks Kirby. I have also added another map of 1905 showing the cottage's location. It is only just about six miles from where I live so if you want a photo of it I will take one next Friday and post it up here for you.

Hi Bryo
Thanks for that i am trying as you see from message above  if any of George Edden smith or Edden Smiths Siblings were with them at all while they  lived at any of the  addresses . Is there any way you could find out or are there no records that would tell who was there at that time . I was hoping  that possibly their parents John and Ellen Smith might be there . I  remember my Dad saying he had relatives who were burried in Monks Kirby but don't know if they were Smiths or eddens which was Ellens maiden name . Would be grateful for any help .  Thanks also for map and offer of photo .

As Monks Kirby is in Warwickshire your request for who was living there could be better dealt with within the Warwickshire section.
However, on Friday I will have a look around Monks Kirby churchyard and see if any of the names you mention are there.
