Alexander, Rennie, Mulholland, Clarke
« on: Thursday 22 November 07 05:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to locate information about Jane Rennie- married to James Alexander.

The following is some of the information I have.

William John Alexander (Great Grandfather 1879 - 1937) is son of James Alexander (1854- 1919) and Jane Rennie- Not sure where he was born- have been told NI (Ballymena/Ballymoney). There was also mention of a place called Drumnahiskey. But we have Clarke family who also came from N.Ireland
James Alexander was married to 1st Jane Rennie then 2nd Jane Mulholland.

James Alexanders parents were John Alexander (?1824) and Mary Jane Wilkinson

I am trying to find when James Alexander and Jane Rennie, Jane Mulholland Married?
Where did Jane Rennie and Jane Mulholland come from?
Did any of them come from NI?
I can't find the info on Scotlands people, although I did get the death certs for James Alexander, William John Alexander

Thank you in advance for any help.

Mandy

You need to check Census information to establish place of birth.

Can you tell us why you have chosen to post on the Derry board? Do you have more information?

If it's Ballymoney/Ballymena then they are in County Antrim. There's a townland called Drumahiskey west of Ballymoney between the town and River Bann which is the Co. Antrim/Co. Londonderry border.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi All
Kintree- I wasn't sure where to post, so looked at places we visited as children with my grandparents. We visited relatives, but I was not 100%asure.

Aghadowey- thank you.

Mossy- thank you. I did find one document with the Reinny and some with Rennie - I expect the differences are due to the transcription. I hope these are the correct people, it will fill another gap.

Many Thanks to you all
Mandy

Surname is more likely to be Rainey than Rennie as Rainey is a name commonly found around Ballymoney.
Other children of James Alexander & Jane Rainey besides Henry on IGI:
-William John Alexander born 20 Oct.1876 Antrim Ballymoney Cork, Ireland (this is a batch error and should be Ballymoney district in Co. Antrim- nothing to do with Cork!)
-Sarah Jane Alexander born 6 Feb.1879 Drumaheglis district (this could be the Drumahiskey connection)

Thank you for that info.
That will explain my Grandmother being named Sarah Jane Clarke Alexander (born 1912 Calderbank, Lanarkshire)

Sarah Clarke being her mothers maiden name.

The only thing I think is the DOB for William John Alexander as I have his gravestone inscription as 1879- I expect that also could be an error as I believe people were not as accurate with dates (Apologies if I am wrong)
The Rainey (Rennie and Rainny as I have it noted on some docs could also be a misinterpretation).
This is a great help. Thank you so much.

Two possibilities-
1) age on gravestone is a few years off, or
2) an older child who was given the same name died and he was called by the same name

Hi
I just found William John Alexanders death cert. He died 22/10/1937. Saying he was 58 years old. making it 1879. I will go with the info that you have given me. I am realising that there are quite a few discrepancies along the way, especially as we are dealing with hand written and transcribed records.

Many thanks once again
Mandy
