Advice - tracing father illegitimate child in Lancashire
« on: Thursday 22 November 07 13:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I have Harriet Parkinson with unknown father (unmarried mother!) and wonder if I am ever going to be able to find out who her real father was.   Her Christening records on LDS only show her mother - but I have not seen the originals.   Is there a chance that there may be more information on there?

Her birth cert doesn't give fathers name either.

Her marriage cert gives her grandfather's name & occupation as father (Is this common?)

Any advice on where to look next or is this a lost cause?

Thanks

Milly

Hi Milly,
I have sometimes seen on the actual register (film of) that the Vicar/Rector makes a remark (father John Smith).  So well worth a look, have you seen this thread, Dotty offers look ups at Lancashire Record Office.

I have a parish record of an illegimimate birth where it says 'supposed father' and gives a name , so, you never know.

Good luck.

ooh... that would be good.  It would certainly solve an old family mystery - or rather confirm a family myth ;D

When I checked the thread yesterday I noted that Dotty hadn't been active there for a while, but checking I found that Dotty had still been doing lookups for Lancashire R.O. on the Lancashire board, so maybe post an individual request for next time she/he is going?
fingers crossed for you!
