I can see Thomas listed in the 1841 Census of Walberswick, living with a number of apparently unrelated people and indexed as "Stroner".
HO 107/1017/3 folio 5 page 5.
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Surnames include: FRANCIS in Glamorgan / LANWORN in Monmouth / BLACKMAN, RUSSELL in Sussex / KEARSEY, BARLTROP in Essex / TOOKEY in Leicestershire / LASHMORE in London and Kent / GOODWIN, PASQUE, ATTOE, FISK, QUINTON, RUFFLES, CULLINGFORD and others in Suffolk / MAYOSS anywhere anytime! / GILMORE in Belfast

There is a 60yr old Samuel Thrower, with a 20yr old Hannah (maybe a daughter) in Walberswick in 1841

Thomas could be a son, probably the youngest of many children.

Probably one of those lucky baptisms, where the mothers maiden name is listed.

Best bet would be the marriage cert.

Hi

Thanks for all your help.

I did find the marriage of Samuel and Ann on the IGI and wasnt sure if Crisp was her middle or maiden name.

Thomas their son married twice. First to Susan Rackham and then to Mary Ann Card. I dont think he had any children with Susan but with Mary he had 7 children.

Have ordered some certs so hope to find out if im on the right track.

Thanks again.

The following Walberswick burial records may slot into place...

Eliza Thrower, age 7 weeks, bur 4 Feb 1816
Thomas Thrower, age 10 weeks, bur 16 May 1824
Anne Thrower, age 46, bur 3 July 1831
Sam L [Saml?] Thrower, age 84, bur 6 Sep 1863 (Abode: Bulcamp)

[Source: Suffolk Burials Index]

IF this is the right family...
- Your Thomas may have been a replacement for the first Thomas who died 1824.
- Samuel Thrower was born about 1779 (which fits the 1841 Census above)
- Anne Thrower was born about 1785
- Samuel and Ann(e) would have been the right age to be the couple that married in 1805 in Walberswick

Following this through...

1851 Walberswick, Suffolk
HO 107/1803 folio 280 page 5
[living alone]
Samuel Thrower, head, widr, 71, parish clark [sic], Blybro' Suffolk

1861 Bulcamp with Blythburgh, Suffolk
RG 9/1179 folio 113 page 7
[listed as one of the inmates of the Bulcamp Union Workhouse]
S.T., widr, 81, agricultural labourer, Blythburgh Suffolk

Baptism:
Samuel Thrower, bapt 30 April 1780 in Blythburgh
Father: Samuel Thrower
Mother: Mary
[Source: Blythburgh PRs, microfiche]

Baptism:
Ann Crisp, bapt 10 July 1786 in Walberswick
Father: John Crisp
Mother: Sarah Bottoms
[Source: IGI]

Marriage Banns:
Samuel Thrower of this parish, single man
Ann Crisp of the parish of Walberswick, single woman
Banns called in Blythburgh 14 July, 28 July and 4 August 1805

More about Samuel's parents....

Samuel THROWER and Mary NOY (both otp)
Married: 22 June 1779 in Blythburgh

Both signed 'x'
Witness: John NOY 'x'
Banns called 23 May, 6 June and 20 June 1779
[Source: Blythburgh PRs, microfiche]

Samuel Thrower, age 72, buried 1 October 1823 in Blythburgh
[Source: Suffolk Burials Index and Blythburgh PRs]

Mary Thrower, age 85, buried 19 July 1829 in Blythburgh
Abode: Monk Soham
[Source: Suffolk Burials Index and Blythburgh PRs]

So it appears that Samuel senior and Mary (Noy) were born about 1751 and 1744 respectively.

I found records of three other children:
John - bapt 6 March 1785
William - bapt 20 January 1788
Pleasance - bapt 26 April 1795

[Source: Blythburgh PRs]

The last of these baptisms is intriguing as Mary would have been aged about 50 at the time! One might suspect that Pleasance [aka 'Pleasant'] was actually born several years earlier than 1795. But she married Richard Sage on 9 March 1815 in Blythburgh and in later censuses claimed to be aged 40 (in 1841), 50 (in 1851), 66 (in 1861) and 76 (in 1871). Additionally she was recorded as age 85 on her death in 1879.

The other obvious possibility is that Mary (nee Noy) wasn't the Mary Thrower who died in 1829. But I can find no other Thrower records for Blythburgh.

I've just realised I've dropped a clanger.

Your Thomas Thrower cannot be the one who was baptised 29 Feb 1824 in Walberswick because this child is obviously the one who died at age 10 weeks and who was buried 16 May 1824, also in Walberswick.

So it looks like your Thomas was NOT the son of Samuel Thrower and Ann (nee Crisp). Nor was he the grandson of Samuel Thrower and Mary (nee Noy). DOH!!

It would be very interesting to find out what his marriage certificate(s) say about his father.

Hi Dave

Thank you for all your help.

What a shame about Thomas not being Samuel and Anns child after all your hard work.

Oh well, see what the certs say when i get them.

Thanks again.

Hi again

Let us know when you get the certs.

We can't exclude the possibility that he was the son of Samuel and Ann Thrower after all. His age indicates that may have been born (very) late 1824 or early 1825. And he might have been named after his recently deceased elder brother.
