I'm afraid there are other possibilities.

The parish of Cloncha (on the Inishowen peninsula) might easily be rendered as Glenchau by someone mis-hearing it for the first time.

As so often, supporting evidence is needed.

1 July 1922 "Aquitania"- Edward Mooney 60 and son Michael Mooney 21 arriving in U.S.
Possibly this is edward arriving 1st time in U.S.?:
E. Mooney age 32 "Etruria" 22 May 1893. Tried to get an address in Ireland but image not available on Ellis Island. You might be able to look at manifest through Steve Morse's search engine (http://stevemorse.org)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hello. No, that was a visit back to Ireland with his family in 1922. I've got the ship's manifest for May 1882 when he emigrated fom Ireland, country of origin - Ireland, on the City of Richmond
I know his parents were Michael Mooney and Hanna Doughty/ Dougherty according to his marriage return. When I did a parents search on LDS they were in Malin, Donegal, and I also found Edward Mooney, born 1857, also in Malin.
Could this narrow the search?
Thank you all for your interest!

Adrian, I think you must be right. It sounds very like that, a phonetic interpretation by the American official. So the LDS records must be right and I can now carry on getting a certificate, thank you very much!
