Briggs
« on: Saturday 24 November 07 21:34 GMT (UK) »
My Mother *was adopted by the people who I came to know as my Grandparents, when she was approx aged 5.  Redvers Badon Briggs was born in 1900 and Annie Morris was born in the same year. They married in Shifnal, Shropshire in 1928.

I know Annie Morris had several siblings. Some of the names were May, Dorothy, Edith, Betty and Jessie.

Redvers had several siblings too, Anna and Ruth being two of them.

I am looking for other family members to get in touch with and help me with my family research.

I dont know how far you have got with your research, but if you havent done it already there is lots you can do whilst waiting to see if you ever trace any relations.

For example, have you got Redvars Baden Brigg's birth cert? Will show his parents.
Here is the index detail to enable you to send for it:

Jul/Aug/Sep 1900
Redvars Baden Briggs
Stoke on trent reg distr ref 6b 240

I noticed that there are lots of babies registered around that time with a middle name Redvars and surname Briggs - so I guess they are all related in some way, looks a fun family to research!

Here is his sister:
Ruth Briggs
Jul/Aug/SEp 1903
Stoke on Trent

2 possibles for other sister:
Ann in 1901 or Annie in 1907

Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

If they married in 1928, presumably your mother was adopted after that - you should be able to get her adoption certificate from the GRO, although it might not give you anything you didn't know already.

1901 census, Stoke on Trent:
Richard Briggs, 38, b. Norfolk NK, maltster
Eliza, 34, b. Staffs NK
Anna, 8, b. Staffs
Redvers B, 0, b. Staffs

There are a lot of possiblities for Annie so I guess you'll need to get the marriage certificate.

I dont think my Mother was ever "officially" adopted, so I wont find anything in that respect.
