another possibility from the igi-
james tyrie married jane campbell 29th november 1851
liff benvie and invergowrie(now part of dundee)

the only child on the igi for james tyrie and jane campbell is
john tyrie born 3rd of june 1859
which could be the john on the 1861 census and might
tie the 2 marriages and children together
can't see anything on ancestry 1851 census

Hi Betty and Ev

Followed your advice and bought the credits. Have now got the marriage of James Tyrie and Margaret Murray, so now know that Margaret's father was Peter a weaver. Unfortunately no reference given to fathers at this time (none of the other men getting married on the same page had references to their fathers).
Also got the second marriage and the 1861 census. Seem to be stuck now as cannot work out how to go back from James as he is not on the 1861 census so do not know when he was born.
Thank you again for all your help and the references for Scotlands People - it is much appreciated.
Will continue again tomorrow.
Phil

Hello Phil,

Unfortunately, Statutory Registration did not start in Scotland until 1855.

For births/baptisms and marriages before 1855, all you will get is a copy of the entry in the Old Parish Register.  Often there is nothing further in the OPR entry than is in the IGI.  So you were fairly lucky to find the information about Margaret's father's name and occupation.

Pre-1855 deaths are not on ScotlandsPeople.

Good luck!

JAP

Morning Ev

Jane was shown as married on the census - occupation: attending to family! She does not show up on the later census but a Jessie Tyrie shows on the 1891 England census as widowed and mother. In 1901 she is shown with son Ernest and daughter Minnie in Gateshead.
I wonder if James married for a 3rd time? He does not show on the 1861 census.
Will be out this morning but back later this afternoon.
Thanks again for your help.

possibilities-
i wonder if jessie tyrie was married to a peter tyrie
freebmd has a peter tyrie died 1886 gateshead(age 39)
on the 1881 theres a peter tyrie with children that could
line up with the 1891 census for jessie tyrie
only problem 1881 wife is susan tyrie
but 1881 peter tyrie birth is given as scotland c1846 which
would line up with peter tyrie on the 1861 scotland census

jessie tyrie was age 38 on 1891 census while i reckon
james tyrie senior was born c1820 which means he would
have been about 70 in 1891 if he was still alive
i think this is too big a gap
