What info on the parents do you need, I am not sure what you are looking for. You already have the marriage date and place.

We have no information about James and Margaret other than their marriage.

We would like to know their birth dates, place of birth, occupations, father's names etc if at all possible so we can go back further.

OK Phil,

To get their birth dates, you first have to find their ages when they married!!

Scotlands People website do have a marriage info below which looks right but again I can't be 100% sure.  You would need to register on Scotlands People and buy some credits, its £6 for 30 credits:- If you check the marriage then work back to their birth, you will also get both their parents names and can lookup their marriage too.

Hi Phil,

Forgot to add with Scotlands People you can download the actual register image of the marriage which will give as I said earlier their ages, addresses and both sets of parents names, mother and father, you may also lucky and find a member of the family is a witness to the marriage.

Hi again Phil,

If you do buy some credits on Scotlands People I would also suggest after you lookup the marriage you can also search the 1851 and 1861 census which would give you all the childrens names and ages as well.
You can do all this and also get images of the census to keep for less than the £6 you paid for the credits on Scotlands People!!
