Swillington baptism
« on: Sunday 25 November 07 01:10 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to confirm if my ancestor is from Swillington.  In all the censuses that I could find him in he listed Leeds as his place of birth in approx 1820.   I am having trouble finding him in Leeds.  There is a John Schofield bapt in 02 Jul 1820 in Swillington.  Since Swillington is just outside of Leeds, did people ever refer to Leeds as their birth place even though it was actually Swillington?
Is there someone that would look up the bapt?  In the IGI his parents are listed as William and Sarah, which is correct.  I would like to know William's occupation or anything that I can confirm that this is my John Schofield.
Thank you for any information.  Thonon

As far as i am aware baptism records don't give fatheres occupations. At leased i never saw any when used the archives in Chester a few years
when researching my own family. The later ones i have are  small baptism cards.

fathers names, occupation & address appear on birth entries after 1812.
I have seen many times POB's given as the place of baptism rather than birth.
It may be one of the parents parishes. In addition it may be he was baptised Swillington but lived in Leeds.
