"The Constitution Hotel" 32 Bedford Street Covent Garden **COMPLETED **

Hi

I am trying to find out as much information as possible regarding this hotel.  I know that it was run by Edward Gerrard SHAW in 1826, as he took out Insurance with The Sun Fire Office. 

I was wondering what was at this address now?

In 1899 numbers 31 and 32 Bedford Street Covent Garden were occupied by Arthur Donald Innes, publisher ( Gazette 11/8/99 page 5043)

Hannah SHAW was the wife of Edward Gerrard SHAW.

The 1881 census has Jonathan L Jones, wine merchant at this address, with his family and a small staff - a cook and a "waiter, licensed victualler" RG11/333  Folio 8 Page 10. No guests. So probably more of a bar/restaurant than a hotel.

Jones is still there in the 1882 PO Directory but my guess is that numbers 31 and 32 Bedford Street were redeveloped as offices shortly after this.
