Hi All,

It does look like you can have a birth certificate ammended. Found this thread on GR:

Amendment to Birth Certificate

Hello

I am a bit confused and would be grateful for any advice/explanation any of you could give me on the following?

I have a relatives birth certificate (born 1932) and along the side of the certificate it makes an amendment in 1933 to remove the fathers details. It says amendment made on production of a Statutory Declaration made by both parties i.e mother of child and person named as the father of the child.

Could this mean that the person named as the father is not the father after all and does anybody know if I could obtain a copy of the Statutory Declaration and if so where from? The birth was in Camberwell, London.

Thank You

M.

In my case ie same situation as yours sounds, my greatgrandmother had to make a statutary amendment because she had 2 more children after her husband died and the father she named for both was her first dead husband. At the time of the second birth he had been dead 5 yrs!!!
On the birth certificate in the final column, it states that

the father's name and occupation were to be removed following a 'statutory declaration made by ....

It has been suggested to me that she may have been receiving money for the children somehow and someone reported the truth,

Hi Silvery,
Thanks for clearing that up. It does look like you can make alterations in certain cases.
However my original intent in the posting seems to have slipped by.

I'm still interested in knowing if there are any legal ties between a child and the named father on the birth certificate even after it became apparent that the named father was not the biological father of the child. No amendment has ever been made to the birth certificate. The situation being almost identical to the example given by Sueky71 above, the named father was married but the child's mother was not.

Still curious as to what the answer may be.
Thanks

an unmarried mother has full parental responsibility whether the father is named on the birth cert or not he has no parental responsibility.
