Greeting’s  again Sue…..

You asked :~ " Not to certain as to when the villiage came about, "

Leire is mentioned in the Doomsday Book = Legre.

Very likely to be named after the old river “ Lagre” a Celtic name
which was a tributary to the river Soar which
" Lagra caster "  ( old name for Leicester ) stood on.

Other TEW families noted whist trawling the registers

John & Elizabeth TEW. He a bricklayer.

Joseph & Jane. He a wool comber.
John & Mary TEW.

MIKE.

John Tew and Elizabeth (Sarah) nee Ball.  I had John down as being a railway labourer from the 1841 census.  But then again he may of changed jobs.
I wonder who the others are?
There is even a William Tew living only a few doors down from john Tew in the 1861 census, I thought they may be brothers, but William was two years older than John.
I did not realize this is a large family, as there is not many Tew family here in New Zealand.
I was looking into Thomas Tew for his father, I have little resources only BMD and family search, there is a reference to another Thomas Tew born in 1748 married to a Anne, may be the wrong one, need to comfirm with parish records.
Thanks again

My grandmother was Nellie Tew, daughter of Joseph Tew from Burbage, Leicestershire.  That's about 10 km from Leire.  Joseph was born in 1852 and married Elizabeth Wells.  His parents were John Tew and Mary Ann Hands.  Do you think we have any connection?

Hi

Sorry for any late reply but I have computer trouble and using limited access to one.

Sorry the names you said cmmcg do not ring any bells at this stage, I do have a few Joseph Tew's on my tree.  I will have another look once I get things back and running.  My Tew family basically lived in the Leire area around the mid 1800's.  I am in contact with another Tew re-searcher who may have these connections in Burbage, please give me a few days to get back on track.

I presume efairbrother is someone I am already in contact with.

Cheers

Hi

Major computer trouble at my end.  Looks like a new computer is called for.  Sadly earthquakes are to blame, as our computer is only 3 years old.
Have backed all files up onto a stick, will have to print many pages to keep a written form of the tree.
