That's amzing news - and snap!  :o

I've been tracing my own tree, and that of two families with the same surname from a village 1 mile away, in the hope that I will be able to connect them.

I think I might have finally done it this weekend too - and again the descendents went to London (mine) and Australia (theirs). We too have been in touch through GR and are busy swapping GEDCOMS, and it's all falling nicely into place.

They are pleased as I have taken photos of their ancestors' graves in Norfolk.

Meles,
Our lucky stars and constellations must have been in exactly the right place this weekend, then - must say, I did forget to read my horoscope before I went off with my files tucked under my arm; a little nervously, I have to admit - imagine if I'd got something vital completely wrong, and things hadn't fitted together at all.
Years ago my brother, who is a land surveyor, helped plot an oil pipe line across a Middle-Eastern country from the west; another surveyor from a different company was surveying and supervising his from the east.  Eventually they could both see their respective pipelines converging on one another.  Bated breath - but they fitted perfectly in the right place in the desert.
Or that's the story my brother has told for about 25 years, and I'll use it as my analogy here...!

Great job Keith, I can imagine you were practically jumping up and down with excitement when you realised you had found a link.  I think that's what we are all searching for, missing relatives, plus finding some link to another side of the family.

Also a great job Meles, it takes a lot of hard work, and often we are dependent on other people posting links on various web sites or somewhere on the internet to find living contacts.  Sometimes we have to employ a lot of lateral thinking and be creative in our searching too.  It's really great when someone's hard work pays off.
I am researching the following families:
Hurst / Payne - Leicestershire / Warwickshire / Worcestershire
Toon(e) - Leicestershire
Batchelor / Foster - Warwickshire / Northamptonshire
Hardy - Dorset

My web site has the family tree showing.  I am researching primarily the Payne, Hurst, Foster and Batchelor lines in the Midlands.

I certainly agree with you that we are working on jigsaw

puzzles.  Problem is that we're not sure of the number of

pieces.

Regards,   Kathleen

;D ;D ;D  You're spot on here, Kathleen!!  A jigsaw with an unknown number of pieces, that keeps growing larger and larger as we put more pieces in!

Well, Keith, some of your luck must have rubbed off on me! Since I posted my reply on this thread yesterday I have received a message from someone I first contacted over two years ago on GR. There may be a glimmer of light in the west! SW Scotland to be exact. It relates to a photo I posted on this website. If it works out I will post a new topic. Wish me luck please. I have been working on this particular area of my tree since I first started without any success. As they say, WATCH THIS SPACE.....

Judy,
That's more great news, and I hope it turns out to be another exciting link-up! (Sorry I haven't responded earlier, but I've had a couple of good days in Brighton, particularly in their Local History Centre that is part of their Museum.)  May well be another post brewing about THAT!
