Hi Debbie

Thank you so much, I'm back from Melbourne now (poorer, but lots of chrissy shopping done ;D) and will PM you with my details.  Thank you so much for your help

Dee, sorry I didn't reply to you, I only just saw your message as I was reading through the post.  I hope you didn't think I was ignoring you, I would never do that intenetionally.  I shall PM you too.

Thank you both

Lones  :)

I would have thought some of their children would have been mentioned too by then, 1919, they would have all been young adults.  Do you know what age you had to be to vote?  One of their sons had already been away at war by then, surely he was old enough to vote??  :-\

I am pretty sure voting age was 21.
Both of my Grandparents were born in 1915 yet they don't appear on the 1936 Roll, and it is an unusual name too so if they are on there I couldn't possibly miss them.

Something else worth noting if you are having trouble finding someone is that women were not given the vote until 1905/1906?, Non British subjects until the 1940's and Aborigines until 1949.

I am having a ball with these electoral rolls though, I have found a wealth of info in regards to where people lived at a certain time and their jobs, I have found entries for almost everyone who was alive and of the right age between 1905-1936  :)

Hi Cando

Thank you for that site, it was very illuminating.  1908 in Victoria before we were allowed to vote!!! >:( >:(  Though sometimes you wonder if any of them are worth voting for!! ;) :D ;D

Belinda, thank you, Debbie has found my Grandmother and her brother and parents on the 1924 register, so they were there.  I am very pleased with that.  Don't you just love this site?  Everyone is so helpful.  It's brilliant

Thank you to everyone who has helped me on this, I am really pleased with the results.

Very kind regards

Lones  :) :)

Sorry to bother you all again, another quick query.  My Grandmother is listed on the 1924 role as Mary Jane Dunstan, but she married on the 25 Oct 1922 to Sydney John Smith.  Why would she be listed under her maiden name, does anyone know?  They were not seperated or divorced as they were still married when she passed away.

Thank you

Lones

Hi

Perhaps she hadn't notified Electoral office her change of name and address.

I found a great Aunt of my husband's (who married in 1903) on the roll under both names (two different addresses) in 1913!

Folks are always talking about errors in rolls - they seem to have started a long time ago  ;D
