Newspaper Report of death in Rome 1837
« on: Monday 26 November 07 08:21 GMT (UK) »
Today, I found a reference in the letters of Thomas Carlyle to the death of a young man in Rome. The young man was killed by a crowd of people  panicking during an outbreak of cholera. He refers in the letters to a newspaper report of the death in the Globe newspaper in September 1837 and also the Examiner of the same time.

Can anybody tell me where I might find copies of these newspapers? I'd like to read the reports for myself.

Thank you

Plunquet

The Times, Thursday 17th Sept mentions it in a mere half-line ... and only the continuance of cholera, with 200 a day dying ...

Obviously it must have been commonplace, or they might have mentioned it more !   Compare that with the news of this age, and, say, deaths from  bird flu in other parts of the world !
