Hi All!

I don't know my Atherton from my Elbow   ;D so I just found out, Atherton is also known as Chowbent, or Bent for short :
http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Atherton/index.html
http://www.nyt.co.uk/athertonhistory.htm

Hi Lilian -  I just got in fine via that link......perhaps make sure you don't have Pop-Ups blocked? Failing that:--

1) open a new Browser window.
2) In this topic, right click on that link and select "Copy Shortcut"
3) In the new Browser window, right-click and "Paste" into the web address bar, then press Enter, or Go.

OR: Go to the Rootsweb World Connect pages:
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi
And search for Ada Louisa DAVIES b 1863 Chowbent

It will come up with one hit - click on her name to open up the tree!

If  it wasn't for Anna's finding of the  Lilly to LALLY marriage, that was what set me looking for the MORRIS, actually they were pretty easy after that  - so hear hear, well done everyone  ;D But Deb, you're so right! It took me AGES to find Eva Ethel -  I was so het up,  I kept typing in the wrong things in Search boxes and it was slow, oh, I was shouting at the computer!

Cheers

AMBLY...I know the feeling oh so well .... it's as good as finding your own rellies ...sometimes I am in such a hurry that when I go to post , I can't even read my own scrawl ... and then have to repeat the performance of finding them again.  ::) ::)

Once again .... great work !
I know Lilian must be so thrilled .....over the moon, most probably :) :D

Hi Lilian

Just going back to John being in WW1 - because he was wounded, I was hoping he might be listed in the Ancestry database of WW1 Pensions - where he could of course be listed as DAVIES MORRIS and with or without a middle name, or both of them listed back to front - which widens the range somewhat  :P

However - if he wasn't an Officer, his records may unfortunately be among those 60%+ of records which were burnt during a WW2 Air Raid....

Some mention of that here:
http://www.pals.org.uk/research.htm

National Archives has a index  - WO 363, the so-called Burnt Documents, explained here:
http://shrinkalink.com/20069

They do have a John William DAVIES listed in those records....
http://shrinkalink.com/20070

They also have a number of Medal Cards in that name - this is but one:
http://shrinkalink.com/20071

Because of the common names he has,  I wonder, if on one one of his children's birth certificates born during the war years, his army number or regiment name  may be listed?

Other than that, I wonder if a photgraph exists of him in his uniform? Some very clever Rootschatters are able to identify regimental insignia on badges etc from photographs.....

Cheers

Hi AMBLY  me again.  I tried to open it up all the 3 ways you said but all I get is a message saying:-     Windows cannot open this. Windows needs to know what programme created it.  I'm a computer virgin so I don't know what to download to allow me to open it..........if you know what I mean. I hope you do cause I'm having a problem keeping my head in order with all this info coming at me.   ;D

Best regards Lilian :P

Great site. Glad I joined. Dont feel on my own now. Best regards Lilian

You're never alone when you have Rootschat Lilian.

Both those worldconnect links seem to be working Ok for me.

Try going in through Google...put rootsweb.worldconnect in the search bar.

The first hit should be WorldConnectProject - click on that and it should take you to the home page with a search box under where it says 480 million in red letters

Put in Davies - Ada Louisa and hit go and you should find the tree

Good Luck
Suey
