Rev Owen Lewis of Talsarn, Llanddeusant
« on: Thursday 29 November 07 22:37 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the burial place of Rev Owen Lewis, the calvinist methodist minister of Talsarn chapel in Llanddeusant. He died in 1870.

Can anyone help? I don't know the area but I would have thought he'd have been buried in Llanddeusant if there wasn't a graveyard at his chapel.

Thanks very much for this. What is your source for the burial record?

I have the baptisms of his children and noticed there were two different surnames for the mothers but having studied the order of births I wonder if it is the same woman as in 1816 she is listed as David, then in 1819 it is Thomas, in 1821 it is David again, in 1823 it is Davis, and in 1826, 1828, 1829 and 1831 it is Thomas. Perhaps she was a widow when she married Owen? I have ordered the films via the LDS so will check it out.

Was his wife buried with him?  And do you know what Ucha means? His house or farm was called Penyrhiw.

I don't have his marriage, thanks for this. Does it give any more detail?

Thank you

Carmarthenshire Burial Index

Yes noticed that with the children very strange i can see it being a misspelling between Davies and David as this happens a lot the Thomas is stranger and yes see what you mean if the first lot were Davies then Thomas it would make sense. But it seems to interchange.

The only other details youll get from the marriage this early is the witnesses.I havent got those details

Had a reply off a very kind lady who does look ups and this is what she found.Remember the Patronymic(think ive spelt it right) naming pattern was relevant then
Owen son of David Lewis Howel on 11th Nov 1788.Someone else has apparently also researched this line and they have come to the same conclusion this is the right Owen Lewis.I will see if i can get contact details for you and put you in touch

Hi Welsh Lady

Thanks very much for all your trouble. Is this date his birth or christening date? I assume it was in Llanddeusant.  Going to look up the Patronymic naming pattern now, I think I have seen some links to it somewhere.
