Confused
« on: Friday 30 November 07 06:35 GMT (UK) »
I'm struggling to find the birth of a Mary Mc guirk,I've got her marriage in 1919 to a Thomas Feckey but can't seen to find the birth,I've tried the free bmd & ancestry but no luck, any suggestions where to from here, but where I'm confused is that part of my tree includes another Mary Mc guirk actually 2 b1867 &1882,both to peter & jane mc guirk both on the  1891 census they're both listed as daur but why would 2 living daughters be called the same name? also on the printout I made of the census it runs over 2 pages and on the start of the 2nd page to me it looks like Foy but on the census record they're all mc guirk.Any explanations anyone :-\

Hi Northside Lass.

There seem to be two different questions here..

firstly the 1891 census. Those last 5 children are clearly Foy but have been transcribed as Guirk. What is confusing is that they are listed as children of Peter and Jane. I suspect they may be grandchildren.

Did Peter and Jane have a daughter old enough to be married c.1881?

Secondly your missing Mary McGuirk who married Thomas Feckey. Do you have the actual marriage record with approx age and father's name?

if you look at the page for mary guirk it says on the top left hand side page 6
if you then look at the entry for mary foy on the next page it says on the top right hand side page 14
so there are some pages missing
by my reckoning that makes the second mary(foy) a completely different family.
could ancestry have muddled them up when they transcribed them

Hah!

Well spotted Wozzle!  Page 6 is misplaced (on Ancestry at least) in 1891, and is between pages 13 and 14 - the Foy parents are at the bottom of page 13.

So the Foys are a red herring.....  ::)
