Bishop's transcript.
« on: Friday 30 November 07 17:38 GMT (UK) »
I eventually found a John Higgs the father of Lazarus and my gr gr gr grandafther in the attachment.

Thought some chatters who have never seen BT's as writ might like to see the attached.  Mind you, the vicar of Great Badminton was possibly a cut above the average as his parish included the Duke of Beaufort's estate.  In the BT's are records showing that the vicar officiated at the burial of some of the Somerset family members.

How I wish all the BT's I've searched (over a thousand yearsworth) were as clear and tidy!

Regards

Chas

Lovely document, thanks for sharing, I've not seen a real BT - mind you with my luck the way it's going at the moment mine would be the unreadble Christening in the crease  :D

The writing on that transcript is beautiful. I used the RootsChat search to see if a link
had been  included to explain a Bishop's Transcript and failed one. Click here for an
explanation. I've taken the liberty of linking  the Bishops Transcript for 1722 thread.
