Affleck - What's in a name?
« on: Friday 30 November 07 19:52 GMT (UK) »
There is a line in my family where Affleck is used as the given name of their sons. Given that it is a little unusual chances are if any have this name in their 'Trees' we could be related. Love to hear from you.
Kerr, Cannon, Antrobus, Clark, McLean, McInroy, Jackson, McLeod.
All in the Greenock area from 1790 on.

Hi Celia thanks for your email The name, Affleck, has been used as a first or given name that is what has made it unusual.

Hi Sabu

The only Affleck I've ever heard of was a department store in Manchester, which I think closed in the 1960s.  It was called Affleck and Brown.

Hi Sabu,

Interesting forename...the only time I've heard of Affleck is in the street name here in Aberdeen  :)

It's possible that if you trace back far enough, that it was originally used to name the first son in honour of someone with the surname Affleck...but maybe you know of this already  :)
