« on: Saturday 01 December 07 09:26 GMT (UK) »
I have a letter I want to send to New Jersey, America.
Do I enclose a S.A.E?

Has anyone else done it, what and how did you do it?

Hi pettsy,

I think you can use International Reply Coupons for S.A.E.; your post office should be able to advise.

I am not sure of the price, but International Reply Coupons used to be 60p. The post office here will stamp them - enclose it with your adddressed envelope and the Post Office at the other end will take the coupon as basic postage from USA to here.

I've done it for the other way (I was writing from US) and I had the post office here put a stamp right on an envelope. No problems at all.

Oh!  That's interesting, Kath!  The US must be different in this regard.  Here in Oz we have to use International Reply Coupons too, because you cannot buy stamps of foreign countries here.

In fact, we just mailed something to Australia a few weeks ago and I am sure the post office just metered it. Sadly, though, the postal worker was a bit clueless as it was going to Western Australia and she laughed at me and said, "Oh isn't that cute, I'll just put Australia."  ??? It got there nonetheless.
