Silver Miners.

There's an article about "Mining a Thousand Years ago", written by William B. Dana, which was published in the "Merchants' Magazine and Commercial Review." It mentions miners moving, at the end of the thirteenth century, from Warpentake (or the Peak) in Derbyshire to Martinstowe in Devon where they mined for silver. Peter Claughton's The Mining History Information Pages contain articles about mining in England and Wales including an article about "The medieval silver mines at Bere Ferrers, Devon." Pre 1350 these mines belonged
to the Crown. After 1350 the mines were granted on lease to outside interests, with the Crown retaining a royalty and right of pre-emption on the produce.
