A drop of whiskey and warm milk, for a cold, at any age. It didn't turn me into an alcohlic,  ;D ;D ;D   I did that myself.

What would Health and safety say about my toys

I didn't mind the rose hip syrup......the cod liver oil was yuck...

Mother used to make her own concoction of glycerin, lemon and honey. We had to have a spoonful every day before we went to school. One day, just after the living room had been redecorated with a brand new anaglypta ceiling, Ma shook the jar with the mixture and the lid flew off and ...well....there you are......ceiling ruined!

Cor, Indi - Anaglypta was posh  :o  We had distemper  :)

Mum did the walls and ceiling and Dad was left to gloss the skirtings and doors. It took hours to dry and no brush marks allowed  ::)

Smelled horrible.

I did so want us to have pretty patterned wallpaper but Mum didn't like it and so.....................

PS The space bar on this laptop is driving me nuts - sorry  :(

We had distemper (on our walls)  -  but when we did get wallpaper, we had to sit for hours cutting the edges off (too expensive to get the shop to do it for you) and we used to make lighthouses out of the edgings by coiling them up and pushing them out from the centre

What's wrong with the Famous Five ???  When I was young (violins playing), that is what I got for birthday and Christmas presents - and my birthday follows shortly after Christmas.

Lizzie

I could say yes & yes to both those comments - but in addition - and at great expense for a 10 year old - I wrote to somewhere in UK & received information on forming a "Secret Seven Club" about 6 months later  - our main activity seemed to be cordial and cake for afternoon tea - provided by 7 mothers  ;D - but we had badges and masks and a minute book to record who came to meetings! as I remember.

Enid Blyton was a refreshing change to Janet and John!  ;D ;D

I think I must have read every one of Enid Blytons books .. not saying I would agree with them now - but at the time .. ..
