i meant the BMD index and not the cert. certainly the maiden name should be shown but that was not always the case.

I think Ruby had moved on to what was shown on marriage certificates when we'd been talking about birth indexes and birth certs.

Well I've so far found one of my Aunt's children of her second Marriage,in the GRO Birth Index,and it was just as well that her maiden name was shown,or I'd have been looking for ever!Her second husband's surname was Williams,as was her first....

My Grandma was married twice..once in 1900..which just showed her maiden name(Longbottom) her hubby was John Pattinson.... and the second time in 1919 she married James Kershaw and the cert states..Jane  Pattinson formerly Longbottom...
