Great Ormond Street Hospital 1852-1914
« on: Tuesday 04 December 07 14:58 GMT (UK) »
I posted this earlier on the English Board, but thought perhaps it would be better here as not everyone reads all the boards.

This was in a newsletter from lostcousins.

Everyone knows that Great Ormond Street is the most famous children's hospital in the world, but did you also know that the admissions records from 1852-1914 are now available online?

http://www.smallandspecial.org

I've logged on registered and found 2 records either (or probably neither) which could be my lost g.grandfather.  It gives addresses and age at time of admission amongst other  information.  Try it, you may strike lucky with your brick wall.

Yes, I did a quick search with some  of my family names and found  one of my ggrandfather's sisters on there... It was the address and dob that nailed it. My Dad certainly never knew that any family members had been to Great Ormond Street.

Diseased knee!!! she is down as recovered but I can't think what a diseased knee means other than polio

My mum spent some time in Gt. Ormond Street as a child with a diseased knee, they suspected TB. However it turned out to be nothing of the sort. So perhaps instead of polio it was suspected TB.

thanks for that... she went on to marry twice and had 5 kids so what ever it was, didn't seem to affect her life too much.

I wish this site was to 1930 my brother was a small baby when was admitted to this hospital .He suffered from asthma from birth .I think he was either 3 days old or 3 month at the time he was admitted
Sadly he died only 27 years old

Strange thing was he always said he would never see 40
