Knochea-PEGUM
« on: Wednesday 05 December 07 05:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,
According to the National Archives website my ancestor was born in Knochea, Limerick.
Do I need an exact date of birth or marriage to find the parish records?

My ancestor was Thomas PEGUM born c1808. He married Bridget ?. Unknown date or place of birth and Bridgets surname unknown.
They had a daughter Ellen PEGUM c1839.

Thomas was part of the 86th Regiment and they came to NZ in 1847. I have searched all NZ records but haven't been unable to fill in any gaps.

Not too familiar with Co. Limerick- is Knochea the townland or the parish? To find church records you will need to know the name of the parish (see www.thecore.com/seanruad to find townlands/parishes but be sure to change default setting from exact match). You also need to know the religion to check church records.
Once you have the parish check LDS catalogue (www.familysearch.org) to see if they've microfilmed the church records (and what dates might be available). Microfilms can be ordered from your local LDS library for a small fee to view there.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
