I think Elizabeth Locke is the best candidate. With two separate pointers I would classify that as a 'almost definite'.

Just to put a spanner in the works...

Elizabeth Stockley is consistent in the 1871, 1881, 1891 censuses as to her birthdate of 1844-6 and birthplace of Winfrith, Dorset.

Unfortunately I do not see an Elizabeth Locke matching those birth details in either 1851 or 1861, or any FreeBMD birth of such an Elizabeth Locke anywhere in Dorset. 

This could mean that she's not Elizabeth Locke at all, or that she had an early marriage to a Mr Locke before William, or that I've missed something!

If I were you I'd be getting one of the children's birth certificates to be absolutely sure of her maiden name - e.g. Frances Mary STOCKLEY Jun 1867 Wareham 5a 267 - who is the eldest child in the family in 1871 and 1881.

Some very good advice Anna, thank you.

Sadly, ordering certs is out of the question right now. The Stockleys of Corfe Castle are a special project of mine and they have exploded to over 500 individuals. That would be one heck of a cost to confirm everything by certificates. I have to rely on cousins.

I think I will look for a previous marriage.
