So why does it have Keerin Leslie Smedley AKA George Thomas Wilmhurst only on the front page of the Army record and then throughout the rest of it he is referred to only as Keerin?

I have a headache!

Now I'm more confused :D
Kerrin joined the army in January 1916.
In August 1916 he was in the UK.
In April 1918 he was in hospital in the UK.
He arrived back in Australia in June 1919
Please explain   ??????
Raylen

You're asking ME to explain?   :o

Cando,
Looks like you might be right.

But why would he be using Kerrins name and when/if the army found out,
would it be documented anywhere?

Just a bit of trivia  :)
[A very distant relative joined the navy, didn't like it and deserted.
Later he joined the army using his middle name as his christian name and his mothers
maiden name as his surname. ]

I did notice another Service number on the enlistment papers that had been crossed out.
#4726 but that didn't produce anything when I searched.

He gives his age ( in Jan 1916) as 24 years
and (in March 1916) as 23 years 11 months  =  born c1892
*George born 1889  Kerrin born 1891*
Birth place - Clifton Hill ( same as Georges)
Mothers name - same as George's

Sure seems like George just using Kerrins name  :-\

1919  SMEDLEY, Keerin   Healesville   Labourer
1919  SMEDLEy, Olive      Healesville  Home Duties

No where was George in the intervening years.

Belinda the alias may not have been discovered until post war and then entered in the record.

edit  Look like George didn't bother to enrol to vote for the 1930 election
Sorry about the duplication - I'm having internet problems - transmission just stalling >:( >:(

How completely and utterly bizarre!
He must have known Keerin from somewhere, I wonder why he used his name.

Belinda,

maybe he knew Kerrins brothers who were in the army.
Not that they would be good role models  ;D
