Yes... that and the fact when he was AWOL he sent his
mother to collect his pay! ;D

Have just found army records for Keerin Leslie Smedley also.  He
has a bit of AWOL too!  Must be a family trait ::)

They must have been a handful for their Mother on her own I suppose.

Their father died in 1899, aged only 41 "from injuries sustained from being crushed by the wheel of a bullock waggon"
