Bolton Streets
« on: Thursday 06 December 07 21:55 GMT (UK) »
I have an address of an ancestor in Bolton, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. It is 26 Horrocks Street, Bolton and they lived there in 1926.
Could anyone tell me whether it does/did exist in Bolton, please, and where abouts it was?
Thanks so much,
Ros

There is/was a Horrocks Street in the Deane area of Bolton next to the chuchyard of Deane Church. Not sure if it is still there but could find out if this is the correct one.

If you look on Google maps for Deane Church Lane immediately directly across Deane Road to the right of Junction Road is where Horrocks St used to be. A residential home for older people now occupies the site.

Thanks for your response. I tried looking on Google maps - is the site of Horrocks street off Wigan Road, then? Do you know the name of the Home?
Which map are you looking at to be able to see location of this street?
Regards
R

I found it on an old street map. The street does not appear on the Google map but it is off Wigan road. I have tried to attach the map but I am not sure I have done it correctly so hope you can read it. The home now on the site is Lyngate, I think.

I had a look on the 1895 25" map but can't see any sign of the street then.

Must have been a relatively new house at the time! Everything helps when building up a picture of family history - the trouble is, the more you find out, the more you realise you don't know! :D Addictive! Thanks for the info!
