HI Spring!  Well said, indeed.  I am gathering as many branches, twigs and twiglets on my family tree for posterity. Yes, this is important becuase one never knows what records may be destroyed by persons or an act of Mother Nature.  This is an exciting time to be hunting for those branches of the tree! A rellie of my husband's knew he had incurable cancer and placed his huge family tree on line for all and has left funds for the website to continue to operate!  What a wonderful gesture!  ;D   Pat

Pat,
What  a wonderful thing to do.! For my age group, it is probably especially poignant to leave ,perhaps a lasting memory, for the general populace, apart from our immediate family.

I update my researches to my three children, and the parts of our  (my Husband)s joint tree to all of his  contacts
.Put as many notes of suppositions, guesses etc. so that they can at least know where to look
One does feel that it is one way to leave a legacy to a later generation.

You know you're past the point of no return when you watch TV and pay more attention to the credits than the show...

I am researching the family of a distant relative (by marriage) of husband!

Now that is obsession!

That happens to me quite regularly! I have "done" several friends tree's, my sister-in-laws etc.

This hobby does indeed become obsessive!!

Hi All,
Bennett I am with you about being introduced to new people at a function or something and you like and are captivated by their surname.
Being in Australia, I have, on a couple of occasions asked,

"Do you know what ship your people came on?'

And I am still surprised when they say.

"Why would I want to know that?"

Can't believe it ::)
Sue

No comment there Sue other than to say that the name of a ship in a well known rugby song sprang immediately to mind.

Have you all posted Santa a message telling him about the Genealogy books and CDs,
and subscriptions to Genealogy magazines, as well as other items that would help in
your research such as a holiday in Ireland to find those really elusive ancestors?
If you've all been good maybe Santa will grant your wishes 8)

Christopher

Well - I'm really pleased to hear that other people are also in so deep that when they reach a *stop* on their tree, they go off and do some-one elses!   :D ;D

I've done one for my sister-in-law, and then one for her sister-in-law who saw it and said " pity the children will only have one side...." who could resist a comment like that ?  And then my friend mentioned her grand-mother who had an unusual surname and wondered whether there were many others with that name.....

Obsessive, for sure - my son uses the word addiction - and he's the one who goes glassy-eyed - although he now makes me listen to some tale by saying  "I listen to you about your FH !" and making me feel guilty!
