Sorry to hear you don't think this is your family.   I've checked again and this is the only family that fit the criteria you mention.   What are your sources?   If you can give any extra details I'll try again.

Do you know when John and Jane died ? If 1855 there will be a death certificate  on Scotland's People which will give you their parents names.

On a quick look there are two possibles I can see who died in Johnstone and these ages would fit with the ages Annette has posted on the censuses.

1.  1872 SPEIRS JOHN     M 62 JOHNSTONE /RENFREW ( Frame no 559/03 0040)

2.  1875 SPEIRS JOHN     M 66 JOHNSTONE /RENFREW ( Frame no 559/03 0128)

To view these records you will need to buy credits at Scotland's People. Minimum is 30 for £6/$12 which isn't too prohibitive

Checked for the John and Jane that I'd found previously on the 1871 Census - could not locate either of them.   There were 3 other Johns though who would fit the 2 death entries you found, Ann (one married to an Ann, one to a Margaret and the other to an Elizabeth).

I then looked at the deaths and found a Jane Speirs - age not given - who died at Johnstone in 1865 - other surname being Fillans.   This ties in with the likely marriage for the John and Jane I'd found i.e. John Speirs married Jean Fillans 30/4/1838 Abbey (Paisley).     Could find no other likely death entry for  John between 1861 and 1871.

I have John as
Ref.1871 Census for Abbey/Paisley Renfrewshire.At home of son William on day of census. John's occup.shown as a agricultural lab.and a widow at this time.--Marriage date from Old Per.Reg.Renfrewshire. John did marry Jane Fillans on the 30 April 1838 at Abbey(Paisley) Renfrewshire Scotland. John died on the7 Mar 1872 at Thorn Renfrewshire Scotland ( I have his death cert) and Jane (Jean) died 10 Feb 1865 also at Thorn Renfrewshire. This is why she would not be in the 1871 census. The son Hugh throws me a bit. It's a name I haven't senn in the family. Might be the milkmans. John's parents are William Speirs & Jane Logie & Janes (nee Fillans) are John Fillans & Jane White.

Given Hugh's age in 1851, he would have been born prior to the 1838 marriage.
