What do you think COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 15 December 07 17:40 GMT (UK) »
Can you tell me what it says over the occupation for my ancestor Phillip R Barette.  I think it is Nashs which is a warehouse on the Thames.   Why would someone write "is on Brit seas"

By the way he was born St Helens, Jersey not St Helina but it looks as if someone has corrected that.

Hi Sylviaann

It certainly looks like Nashs.  Perhaps it was a way of telling where they were or something.

Why would someone write "is on Brit seas"

What do you think

I think it says "is in Brit seas" rather than "is on Brit seas" possibly meaning his birthplace .. which was Jersey.

Why would someone write "is on Brit seas"

I think it says 'Is. in British Seas', meaning 'Island in British Seas'.

This has been added later, possibly by someone classifying places of birth.

The writing over the occupation has also been added later, by someone placing  occupations into different classifications. I think it might say 'harb' ie harbour worker.

It does look more likely to be Harbr than Nash - it is most certainly an "H" .. ..

I stand corrected, when you blow it up and still retain the quality it definitely does look like an H.  Sorry  ::) ::)
