Shirley,
There are no online records inside 100 years, the only way to find out is by visiting Register House in Edinburgh, or finding someone who is going there and will do a lookup. You never know on this board, you may be lucky.

Do you  know where they got married? Or lived? Or have any other addresses/place names connected with the family.  I am researching the same period in Dumfriesshire and got lucky by googling all the house names I knew. One of them was still owned by the family, who gave me lots of info, and another person was able to tell me who had lived in her house in the 1920's.
Also the Dumfries ad Galloway Family History Society has directories from the 1920's, if you can find someone kind enough to look up for you.

hi shirley,

if your francis was 60 when he married in 1927 that makes his birth around 1870,

best i can see at present is....

1901 census- tower street, old cumnock, ayrshire

francis...age 30...coal miner...born dumfries c1871
elizabeth..age 34...born dumfries c1876
bessie...age 9
mary...age 7
francis...age 3

children all born cumnock

hi shirley,

i would also suggest that you visit www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and try and get the death cert for you francis as the deaths go to 1956, i certainly do not see him living past 1950, and that will give his last known address
