I may have asked help with this before in an allied post, but here goes again:
I'm searching for the death of John Flexney, or an entry on the 1901 Census.
John was born in Witney Oxfordshire in 1840, married Maria Noyes in Bristol in 1861 and seems to have led a wandering life after Maria's death in 1881. I've found him in the following Censuses:
1841 Witney with parents (Ancestry trans. Hanney)
1851 Witney with parents (Ancestry trans. Flesons)
1861 Bristol, with sister's family (Ancestry trans. Ilexney)
1871 Bristol with wife & children (Ancestry trans. Flesney)
1881 Swindon in lodgings (Ancestry trans. Fliseney)
1891 Nr Malmesbury, musician in travelling show (Ancestry trans. Fletney)
Whilst in Bristol he was a Railway porter, but always seems to be a musician after 1881. I've given the Ancestry versions of the surname as a guide to the many various ways the name gets distorted. I have tried all combinations of his name (including just "John" born in Witney) without success for 1901 & I can't find him either in BMD 1891-1901. Any ideas would be very welcome as John was the first ancestor I ever traced when I started my research thirty years ago, and seems like an old friend - if only I could find what happened to him.
