Ellis family
« on: Tuesday 18 December 07 23:27 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a family by the name of Ellis from Galway. I believe there was a daughter named either Eliza or Elizabeth who was born late 1790's or early 1800's.She went to Liverpool and was married to Thomas Spencer a bookeeper. I don't know if the whole family left Ireland for Liverpool, but I have certainly hit a brick wall with them.
I would be grateful for any help.

Thank you,
Harpist.

Hello Harpist,

What denomination were the Ellis and Spencer families?

You'll probably have to look at church records for Elizabeth's parents and older siblings,
if there were any as the first Civil registrations in Ireland were non Catholic marriages introduced in 1845. Civil registration for all other marriages as well as births and deaths was not introduced in Ireland until 1864.

Hello Christopher,

unfortunately I don't know anything more about either family, other than the daughter was married in C of E in Liverpool. On the 1841 census Eliza was stated as being from outside of Lancashire and a relative seems to think she came from Galway and that is all I have on her.

Harpist,

Have you posted a message to one of  the local newspaper? www.connacht-tribune.ie
You might get a few replies from people who don't use computers if you go that route.
