1700's info
« on: Wednesday 19 December 07 01:35 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am wondering if I can find information on people from the 1700's for North and South Uist and Skye? I have traced my ancestors to there from Canada. Are there any records from that far back for those specific areas?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

As far as South Uist, which included Benbecula within the parish, is concerned, there are no detailed records of all the inhabitants and their births, marriages and deaths etc. before the 19th Century. However, there are various lists that give names before that, extending back into the 17th Century. It all depends how important they were for one reason or another, and how lucky you are. Do post what you have found and I am sure there will be some responses.
