Dee, Cando and everyone,
Some great success!
Maddie my 3rd cousin, discovered through Rootschat, has done a lot of searching on the web and found some wonderful information! We now have photo's of the Parkhurst Stables, interior and exterior, where John Wise stayed when he arrived in 1841.
The area which eventually became part of Kungarilla, even Eyre's Flat is mentioned, of which I could find very little. The area at one time was known as Dashwood Gully after G F Dashwood who we believe our Great,Great, Grand Uncle travelled with.
BUT, this is the best bit!!!
John Wise died in 1854 and Maddie has found where he was buried. All we had before this was the date of death. Below is the plaque commemorating those buried at the Tabernacle at Tabernacle Road, Victor Harbour. And there eighth from the top on the left is JOHN WISE 1854. There are photo's of the monolith erected when the little church building disappeared in memory of the Rev Newland and even a sketch of the tiny church erected in 1846
I don't know whether this will be clear enough I hope so. This makes up for having letters which are so faint that we are struggling to read them.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those Roots chatters who offered or tried to do something with them. Unfortuntely we don't have access to the originals.
Finally a BIG thank you to Maddie for her patient searching,
Abiam
