Trying to find a marriage date for John Cole and Mary (Unknown) in Devon. possible first child born 1868

John was born in Bideford, Devon, his age was listed as 33 in the 1881 census for Abbotsham.

 Mary was born in Buckland, Devon, her age is listed as 29 in the 1881 census for Abbotsham

Thanks for replying to my query.

This is not the John Cole I am researching, my John was born approximately 1848 and was listed in the 1881 census for Abbotsham as a farm laborer.

Also not what you are looking for quite but noticed  in the 1871 census for Abbotsham there is a:

John Cole, 24, head, Ag Labourer, b. Bideford
Eliza Cole, 24, wife, b. Littleham
Plus children and mother-in-law.

Thanks, it looks tempting but it's not my John, his wife was definitely Mary and the first child was born 1868.

Dear Yosser,

I dont think he would have been a farm labourer in 1851 at the age of 3!! So the son aged 1o months could still be yours who went on to become a ag lab when he married!

And also ages can vary anywhere between 1 - 10 years differant on each census.

Have you got any of their childrens' birth certificates? this should give mothers's maiden name.

Also...Can't help noticing your researching HUGHES in Flintshire
and L'pool......so am I!!

My Great Grand Parents were William Richard and Isabella HUGHES

Thanks for your reply.

 On the 1881 census for Abbotsham, John Coles's wife is listed as Mary A. Cole age 29, I don't know if the initial A after Mary is correct but this is what I was using as a clue to pin down her maiden name.

I haven't obtained a birth certificate yet for for their first son Ernest, so this will be my next move.

Re my research on Hughes in Lancashire and Flintshire I don't have a Isabella Hughes in my lineage and a William doesn't show up till 1911
