McLellan Family Campbeltown
« on: Friday 21 December 07 16:35 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find some information on John McLellan and Flora Bryson.

Flora died on the 16th May 1917 aged 52, at Burnbank Place Campbeltown.

Her parents are listed as John McLellan Shoemaker and Martha McLellan nee Docherty

However Flora had a son Dugald McLellan born 7th March 1881.

This child was illegitimate.

Martha McLellan registered this birth.

When Dugald McLellan married Margaret Mitchell McPherson on the 11th September 1903, Dugald’s Father is listed as John McLellan Shoemaker ???

I am trying to find out more information about this, is there a skeleton in my cupboard?

If anyone can help me I would be ever so grateful

Hazel :)

Hi Hazel,

Welcome to RootsChat.

I think you have already unearthed the skeleton.

Flora presumably married a Bryson sometime after 1881?

In the 1881 census, Dugald is recorded as son (daur son).  Only one daughter at home, Flora.

It's possible that Dugald put his grandfather's name down as his father simply to avoid letting on to his bride that he did not know his real father's name.  What does his death certificate say about this parents?

I haven't had a chance to get his death certificate. He was killed in WW1 on a mine sweeper that was hit by a mine somewhere in the English channel.  I viewed this on Scotlands People but it only says marine accident.
After Christmas I will send away for it to see what it says
Thank you very much for your time it is greatly appreciated.
Happy Christmas :)

Hi Hazel (and group)

I'm a descendant of Flora's son John Bryson, who married Mary Jean Graham in 1919. My grandfather - Hector Bryson Graham (also known as Eric Hector Bryson)- was born in Campbeltown in 1915, four years before their marriage. He moved to Sydney, via London, Paris and New Guinea - courtesy of WWII - and settled there. He passed away in 1976 and left two children, John and Wendy (still living).

I'm looking for any living relatives of my grandfather's brothers and sisters.

Hector Bryson Graham's siblings: Flora McLellan Bryson 1919 (F), Jessie McKenzie Bryson 1921 (F), John Orr Bryson 1924 (M - Died in WWII), Alexander Bryson 1926 (M) and  Martha McLellan Bryson (F - died 1998?).

I'm also interested to find out any info on Mary Graham's parents - Hector Graham and Jessie Graham (previously Orr - M.S McKenzie). Any info you guys can share would be much appreciated.

Until last week, we didn't have any info on Eric's family at all. He died without letting us know - and he didn't keep in touch with his family back in Scotland.

Warm regards, and thanks in advance, Patrick.

Hi Patrick,

This is so bizarre and out of the blue!  I will try to help you as much as I can.  I have very little info other than the siblings of Dugald McLellan.  I am trying to figure out how to message you privately so i can give you my email address.

If you can give me a couple of days to find this out, I will get back to you with as much information as possible.

Regards
Hazel
