Hi All and Merry Christmas, Can anyone in Edinburgh give me any information on anyone living at 100 Princes Street before it became a club Cheers

on the 1901 census for edinburgh 99-100 princes street was a hotel called the windsor hotel

the hotelkeeper at this time was
albert.m.theim born in germany in abt 1849.

In 1825 (you don't mention any dates so this may not be of any interest), 99 Princes Street housed the Bells Mills Dying Company.  I can't find the occupant of 100 or 101 Princes Street.

Is the building in effect the second one along from Frederick Street towards Castle Street?  i.e. not the corner building?  In 1870s it is marked as a hotel.  1853 map does not say anything in particular.  By the 1890s, the Windsor Hotel occupies three or four buildings, including part of the corner building.

100 Princes Street was occupied by a photographers studio at various times.

101a Princes Street housed photographers James Bacon & Son in 1921

101b Princes Street housed photographer Peter Devine 1869-1877, after this John Lamb worked out of this studio. 

100 -101 Princes Street housed the studio of James Auld 1900-1910. 

Looking at a more detailed map, some of the original buildings have been subdivided.

I would imagine that in common with many New Town buildings, separate businesses or households lived on each floor.

Hi Nell, Yes it is, the corner shop is a shoe shop today although next is a dangerous Thorntons chocolates outlet then the Royal Over-Seas which I think is let to the chocolate establishment. Cheers
