Henry Family of Boyle
« on: Monday 31 December 07 10:07 GMT (UK) »
(Sir) Edward Richard Henry was born in London in 1850 to Irish parents (died 1831).  He gave his name to the system of classification of fingerprints used throughout the English-speaking countries and was appointed Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police (London). His father Alexander Henry practised as a doctor and was born in Boyle, Co Roscommon in 1811. I would be glad to obtain any information on this family.

Hello Son of Lugh,

What denomination was the Henry family ? Were they  members of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland), Methodists or Presbyterians?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hello Christopher.

Thank you for your interest in this topic. The Henrys were Catholic.  It appears I will have to have recourse to the BMD registers as I have drawn a blank with the County Library Service and even local historians.

Regards

Sean

If you are looking for information on the family in Ireland the civil registrations (births, marriages, deaths) will probably be too late as Christopher mentined earlier.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi Sean,

This is an impressive guy to have on your family tree ... Sir Edward Richard Henry,1st Baronet GCVO KCB CSI KPM (26th July 1850 – 19th February 1931). Someone has been doing their homework and posted information about him on Wikipedia.

He married Louisa Langrishe Moore on the 24th November 1890. Three days after he and Louisa celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary a disgruntled cabbie named Alfred Bowes attempted to assassinate Sir Edward.

He died at his home at Cissbury, near Ascot, Berkshire in 1931.

It would be worth doing further research to see if you can learn more about this family.

Hi Sean,
Not a relly ??? That's disappointing :(
