If he is the Benjamin Vaux baptised 1716 that would make him about 41 when he married Rebecca - I agree that is old for a first marriage but not impossible. One of my gg grandfathers was 45.

The marriage entry for 1772 just said he was a widower.  He could have been married several times before. ???

I have will for another Benjamin VAUX.  It's not a common name but how can I be sure I looking at the right one?

Hi Bearkat

Have you already got the will of Benjamin Thomas Vans of St Luke dated 12th Aug 1766? Its on the National Archives site to download if you haven't.
Re the other one I suppose you hang on to it till you've gained more info to show whether he is one of yours or not - likely to be related I would have thought.

Yes, I've already got the will of Benjamin Thomas Vans of St Luke dated 12th Aug 1766.  VANS is a common mistranscriptions of VAUS.

The will I have for Benjamin VAUX is dated 1753.  He was from Surrey.   It mentions his nephew Benjamin VAUX, son of his brother, James by his second wife.   He also had a nephew called Joseph VAUX.  Plus bequests to Joseph Aldridge VAUX and George VAUX - sons of Joseph.

Any clues in the fact that Benjamin 1716's parents were Joseph & Elizabeth and there's Joseph's named in the will?

I'll have another look at this long will to see if any other names are mentioned.

Still don't know if there is any connection to our Benjamin Thomas VAUS.

The will for Benjamin VAUX connects to the VAUX of Oulton, Cumberland.

The IGI shows that there were VAUS in London in the 1600s.

I'm just not convinced that these 2 Benjamins are related.
