Sharing Some Good Fortune
« on: Thursday 03 January 08 18:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi all and Happy New Year.

I just wanted to share a great find. My Murphy branch settled in Albany County, New York in the mid 1800s. I have my gg grandfather, Patrick, on the 1870 census and he died in 1874. I think I just found him on the 1860 census, which is wonderful. I was told that the Catholic cemetery in the town he actually lived in was demolished in the early 1900s (I know, a whole other topic). I was sure I would never find his grave. A distant relative I have been sharing information with sent me an email the other day while going through old research (he has been doing this for nigh on 30 years). He had found my gg grandparents, both buried together, a few towns over. Not only do I now have the cemetery, he gave me the actual plot number. And it is only about 2 hours from where I live.  :D I can't wait to get over there and check it out. We are in a deep freeze right now and it will probably be spring, but I am just so happy with the find, I will try to stay content until then.

I am so glad to hear that you have found your grandparents Burial Plot...as you say, Cemeteries being destroyed is another subject >:(

I wonder if you can wait until Spring to visit them...I am so impatient about a find, I can hardly contain myself sometimes ;D

Ambers, me too. I just emailed a guy on Find-a-grave who has contributed a lot of graves in that area to see if he does lookups. It would be something to start with.

I just heard back from him. they have 8 to 10 inches of snow right now, but as soon as he can get there, he will take a picture for me.  :D :D :D At least it is something until I can get myself there in person. Hard with two little ones at home who get a little tired of traipsing after the dead rellies.  :)

Happy New Year to you too, Kath and ambers - and I'm so pleased for you, Kath!  Isn't it great when something like this comes when you are really not expecting it?  Hope the snow melts for you soon!

Thanks guys. We are getting a thaw thhis weekend. We'll see if it is enough for this gentleman to make a trip for me. I told him I would try to be patient, but it is my problem, not his.  ;)
